Personal Statement:
Please provide us with a brief statement of interest which includes your graduate program goals and your reasons for wanting to attend Dalhousie. Explain any gaps or deficiencies in your academic record, or any other factors you wish to have taken into account.
Recommendation Letter:
At least TWO are required. Confidential reference letters can be sent to Dalhousie University EITHER (i) electronically (if the person has an appointment at a University, supply the university e-mail address of that person on your online application and the Dalhousie System will contact the referee so they can complete the reference electronically) OR (ii) via hardcopy http://www.dal.ca/content/dam/dalhousie/pdf/fgs/prospectivestudents/conf_ref.pdf in a sealed, stamped envelope endorsed across the
back seal by the referee and send to the address indicated above. If a referee is reluctant to follow this procedure, please provide him/her with a stamped envelope, addressed to our School, and have him/her mail the letter directly to us. If the reference is given to the student directly, do not open the envelope.
Research Interest:
Please attach an additional page outlining your area of research interest. This does not commit you to a thesis topic, but will be used by potential Supervisors and the Graduate Affairs Committee to determine if your area of interest fits well with our program and with the potential supervisors you have indicated on the Additional Information form. A student is not admitted to the program without a Supervisor who closely matches the student’s area of research interest (also see the Additional Information form).
Writing Sample:
Please send a copy of a sample of writing (e.g. a recently submitted term paper) or submit a brief response to the questions outlined on the Additional Information form.
