Personal Statement:
Statement of Purpose - Provide a statement (approximately 500 words) that identifies your academic goals (graduate study and research), career objectives, why you are applying to this program, and the qualifications that make you a strong candidate for this program.
Recommendation Letter:
Letters of Recommendation - Please have three recommenders (preferably tenure-track or tenured professors) who are familiar with your academic performance submit up-to-date letters of recommendation on your behalf to the Department of Spanish and Portuguese. The electronic application provides a link for recommenders to submit their letters electronically. Letters may also be mailed directly to the graduate office.
Writing Sample :
Required of M.A. and Ph.D. Hispanic Literature and Hispanic Linguistics applicants and of Ph.D. Portuguese applicants. The sample should be of your academic writing—for example, a course or seminar paper—and should be written in the language of the program to which you are applying (Spanish or Portuguese). For Hispanic Linguistics the paper should be submitted on a linguistics topic; if M.A. students do not have one on a linguistics topic, another topic should be fine.
