In addition to the online application, official original transcripts from all post-secondary academic institutions you have attended must be submitted directly to the Department of English. These are the only original hard copy documents you will be required to submit. Transcripts must be in sealed envelopes which bear a university seal. One copy only of each transcript. Curriculum Vitae:
An updated C.V. (curriculum vitae). Added to the C.V. should be a note indicating whether an application for SSHRC (open to Canadian students only) or other external funding has been made.
Personal Statement:
A written statement about current interests and prospective research. How well the applicant's proposed research coincides with the research and teaching interests of the faculty is an important admission consideration, and this is especially true for doctoral applicants.
Ph.D. applicants must include a dissertation prospectus of 1-2 pages in addition to a proposed bibliography.
M.A. applicants must include a concise statement (no more than one page) about their intended course of studies.
Recommendation Letter:
The contact information for three referees. Email requests will be sent by the system inviting referees to submit letters of reference electronically.
Other Document:
A sample of the applicant's scholarly work: One (1) sample only. A substantial literary essay is expected. This paper may be either a graduate or undergraduate paper, drawn from the last two years of any B.A. program, or a paper written specifically for the purpose of applying to the M.A. or Ph.D. program.
